We offer both individual and group supervision options and work from a systemic lens. In individual supervision, we review recordings of your sessions (not every session has to be recorded, just the ones you want to review), discuss ethical, legal, cultural, race, sexuality, PPO, and DEI issues, and explore how you are viewing the case through the theories you are utilizing. We also focus on the self of the therapist and work together to create your list of goals for our time together. Evaluations will be completed by both you and your supervisor to ensure we are staying on track.

How Clinical Supervision Works

Our comprehensive supervision process is designed to support your growth and development as a therapist, ensuring you gain the skills and confidence needed to provide exceptional care to your clients. Here’s an overview of the steps we take in our supervision program:
no1 - McCullough Family Therapy, Lakewood, CO

Initial Consultation

We begin with an initial consultation to understand your needs and goals for supervision. This meeting is crucial for establishing a foundation for our work together. We’ll discuss your professional background, areas of interest, and specific challenges you may be facing. This helps us tailor our supervision approach to best support your development and align with your career aspirations.

Personalized Plan Development

Based on the information gathered during the initial consultation, we develop a personalized supervision plan that aligns with your personal development goals. This plan will outline the focus areas for your supervision, whether it’s mastering specific therapeutic techniques, addressing ethical and legal issues, or improving your overall practice. We’ll set clear, achievable goals and create a roadmap to help you reach them.

Regular One-on-One or Group Supervision Sessions

We engage in regular one-on-one or group supervision sessions where we discuss cases, receive feedback, and explore new therapeutic techniques. We offer both individual and group supervision options, working from a systemic lens to provide comprehensive support.

In Individual Supervision:

We review recordings of your sessions (only the ones you choose), allowing us to provide specific feedback and insights.
We cover ethical, legal, cultural, race, sexuality, PPO, and DEI issues to ensure a well-rounded supervision experience.
We explore how you view cases through various theoretical perspectives, helping you deepen your understanding and application of different approaches.
We focus on your personal development as a therapist, discussing how your experiences and identity influence your practice.
We collaboratively create a list of goals for our time together, ensuring we stay focused on your growth and development.
Regular evaluations are conducted to keep track of your progress and ensure we are meeting your needs effectively.

In Group Supervision:

In each session, one person presents a case, using live or recorded sessions to facilitate discussion.
You’ll learn to give and receive feedback from peers, benefiting from diverse perspectives and experiences.
Group supervision helps develop a team of colleagues who are familiar with each other’s work, fostering a supportive network for referrals and ongoing consultation.
We utilize all participants’ lived experiences and unique theoretical lenses to deepen your understanding of cases and refine your approach.
Our approach is designed to help you become the therapist you are meant to be in this world, providing you with the support and guidance necessary to grow and succeed in your professional journey.

Questions About Clinical Supervision

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?

For individual supervision (50-minute sessions), we require that you meet a minimum of once a month with your supervisor, regardless of how many clients you are seeing. Keep in mind that for both LPC and LMFT licenses, you need to maintain a ratio of one supervision hour for every 20 client hours. For group supervision (2-hour sessions, virtual), we meet once a month and ask that you commit to attending for a set period. This allows us to plan effectively and maintain smaller group sizes.
Most of our supervision is done virtually, but we do offer both virtual and in-person sessions to accommodate different preferences and needs.
Choosing a clinical supervisor is a lot like choosing a therapist. Consider personality, training, and experience. Make sure your personalities will work well together—do you prefer a softer or more direct interaction style? Think about the theories you want to train in or improve your skills with, and pick a supervisor who is trained in those same theories. Also, consider how much experience you want your supervisor to have, both in their theoretical practice and in their supervisory practice. During our consultation, we will work to match you with the right supervisor for your needs.
We are currently only licensed to work in Colorado. If you are outside of Colorado, you will need to check with your licensure board to determine if they accept out-of-state supervision.
Clinical supervision is essential for new therapists as it provides guidance, support, and practical experience. A clinical supervisor helps you navigate real-world challenges, ethical dilemmas, and complex client situations, ensuring you apply what you’ve learned in your training effectively. Supervision also offers a space to discuss your cases, receive feedback, and develop your clinical skills. It’s an opportunity to grow professionally, build confidence, and meet the licensure requirements. Ultimately, having a clinical supervisor helps you become the competent, confident therapist you aspire to be.
